Echinacea is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants in the daisy family. It has ten species, which are commonly called coneflowers.
The name comes from the greek and means 'sea urchin' due to the look of the spiny central disk.
It is purported that echinacea may help boost the immune system with some studies showing that echinacea can shorten the duration of the common cold or lessen the severity of its symptoms. Other studies show that it has little effect.
